Brian Waters Surprises Former Teacher
with League-Wide Accolade
Jan 28, 2009
As a youth, Kansas City Chiefs G Brian Waters was known
mainly around Waxahachie High School in North
Waxahachie, Texas for his athletic abilities. An
all-district tight end and defensive end, the gridiron
was his passion. That is until he enrolled in George
Solis’ Spanish class. From that time forward, Waters
knew that his true bar of excellence was measured as a
result of who he was as a man, not an athlete. Because
of that special relationship between the two, Waters
recently returned to the Lone Star State with a mission
of informing his former instructor that he was being
named the NFL’s 2008 Teacher of the Year.

hosts, the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions. Still,
traditions come in all shapes and sizes… Especially

Kansas City Chiefs

opposing defenders. But when it came time to call an audible
and transform those giant hands into tools of encouragement
there was no hesitation. The Chiefs offensive lineman,
joined by the tight ends, recently spent the day aiding in
First Downs for Down Syndrome’s 13th-Annual Buddy Walk
